To help clients achieve a consistent high-quality finish and provide a structural support to satisfy current building regulations, Bulmer Brick Cutting has designed the Fully Bonded Structural Arch System.
The fabrication includes a traditionally cut arch of any style, complete with fine lime putty pointing if required. The arch is then bonded to a stainless steel or galvanised lintel, and delivered to site ready to be lifted into position.
The specific benefits of this system are:
- Full structural calculations are available for every design.
- The arch sits on the jambs of the opening and is self-supporting while building in. No temporary support required. Installation is quick and easy.
- The arch lintel has purpose-built lifting lugs for simple safe site handling, either by hand, crane or forklift.
- The steel lintel surrounding the arch protects from impact during transport and while waiting for installation.
- No cold bridge exists between inner and outer walls when the lintel is supplied as a single-skin support.
- A simple damp-proof membrane cavity tray over the arch lintel will accommodate weep holes if required and allow solid-cavity insulation to be inserted along with any cavity closer required.
- The arch lintel is fabricated from whole bricks (not slips or pistols). Therefore there is no risk of glue failure or sections of arch falling off! Even without the steel, the arch is a structural member in its own right.
- It is ideal for use with sash widows or arches with deep exposed soffits. The full brick soffit is visible and no steel is seen on the face elevation.
